Four Milwaukee Police Department officers were injured early Wednesday when two squad cars collided while racing to back up a vehicle pursuit on the city’s north side. The crash happened about 3:16 a.m. near N. 27th Street and W. Locust Street, shoving one squad into two unoccupied parked cars. The officers were taken to a hospital, and police described their injuries as non-fatal.
According to WISN, investigators say both squads were responding to the same pursuit when they collided in the intersection. Emergency crews transported all four officers for treatment. Milwaukee Police did not immediately release the officers' names or further medical details, and officials said they are still sorting out exactly how the crash unfolded.
Chase Collisions Keep Stacking Up
This latest wreck is one of several pursuit-related collisions reported in the Milwaukee area this year. In June, CBS58 reported a chase that ended when a fleeing driver crashed near 26th and Burleigh, and an MPD squad was involved in a separate "minor collision." Spectrum News documented an April pursuit in which a squad rolled over and two officers were hurt. Together, those incidents highlight how dangerous high-speed responses can be for both officers and anyone nearby.
What Police Are Saying Now
Milwaukee Police told WISN there was no immediate word on the status of the people being pursued when the squads crashed. Detectives are continuing their investigation into the collision.
This story will be updated as Milwaukee Police release more details about the crash and the officers' conditions. For now, the department says its inquiry into what led the two squads to collide is ongoing.
