Three people were wounded in a shooting early Sunday in the 600 block of Ellis Road in Durham, according to police. Two men and a woman took themselves to a local hospital, where one man was listed in serious condition and the other two were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
What police said
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 5:15 a.m. in the 600 block of Ellis Road. As reported by WRAL, the two men and the woman later showed up at a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds. Police said the woman and one of the men were expected to survive, while the second man remained in serious condition.
A familiar stretch
The 600 block of Ellis Road has already been on officers’ radar this year. A March shooting investigation shut down the same stretch for hours, an incident covered under the headline pre-dawn gunfire on Ellis Road. Sunday’s shooting also lands in the middle of a broader spike in violence, with deadly shootings in Durham doubling in the first quarter of the year, according to Hey Durham, which reviewed the city’s Q1 crime report.
Investigators ask for tips
Durham police have not released any suspect information or a possible motive, and the case remains under active investigation. Anyone with details about the shooting is urged to contact the Durham Police Department or Durham Crime Stoppers. The city’s public information pages list non-emergency phone numbers and ways to submit tips online, per the City of Durham.
