
An early-morning shooting on Mount Vernon Street in Pittsburgh's Homewood North neighborhood left an adult man in critical condition Saturday, after police rushed to the scene on a one-round ShotSpotter alert and found him gravely wounded.
Police response
According to the City of Pittsburgh's Public Safety Blotter, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Zone 5 officers, Pittsburgh Fire, and Pittsburgh EMS were dispatched to the 7100 block of Mount Vernon Street for a one-round ShotSpotter alert. When officers arrived, they found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The Mobile Crime Unit later processed evidence at the scene.
Victim and transport
As first reported by WTAE, Pittsburgh EMS transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition. WTAE also noted that officers provided life-saving measures on scene before medics took over.
Investigation
Violent Crime Unit detectives are handling the investigation, and, according to the city's update, no arrests had been announced at the time of the report. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department so detectives can follow up on leads.
