Two men were wounded in a stabbing after a pre-dawn fight Wednesday at Butler Metro Park in downtown Austin, according to police. The confrontation broke out around 2:30 a.m., and officers and medics moved in quickly. Both men were taken to a hospital with injuries described by police as minor, and a section of the park was briefly shut down while investigators combed the area for evidence.
As reported by KVUE, Austin police said the men argued along the park trails, then stabbed each other. By Wednesday morning, neither had been taken into custody. Officers on scene told the station that both suspected attackers refused to cooperate with investigators, stalling efforts to pin down a motive or a clear play-by-play of how the fight escalated.
Butler Park, Closures And Late-Night Activity
Butler Metro Park, listed in the city directory at 1000 Barton Springs Road, is a heavily used stretch of green space beside Lady Bird Lake that features playgrounds, an observation hill and a splash pad. The City of Austin posts temporary closures and park updates on its Parks and Recreation pages, including shutdowns tied to emergency responses, maintenance or other issues. The park's central location and proximity to downtown nightlife means activity often runs late into the night.
Police Wrap Up Scene, Seek Witnesses
Police told KVUE that the closed section of the park reopened once evidence collection wrapped up and that no arrests had been reported as of Wednesday morning. Investigators are asking anyone who saw the fight or captured video to contact the Austin Police Department so detectives can track down fresh leads. APD had not released the names of the men involved or any additional details about them at the time of the report.
