A quiet stretch of Sheriff Road NE turned into a crime scene early Saturday when officers found a man shot to death in the Deanwood neighborhood of Northeast D.C. Responding before dawn to the 5100 block of Sheriff Road NE, first responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and homicide detectives opened an investigation.
According to WJLA, officers from the Sixth District were called out at about 1:22 a.m. for reports of a shooting in the 5100 block, where they found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds and not breathing. The station reports that police have said there is currently “no usable suspect lookout information,” and that the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Unit is leading the case.
Per the Metropolitan Police Department, detectives are asking anyone with information about the killing to contact investigators at 202-727-9099 or to submit anonymous tips by texting 50411. The department notes that witnesses and nearby residents who have surveillance footage or other evidence are encouraged to share it as the homicide branch canvasses the neighborhood.

The block of Sheriff Road where the man was found has drawn attention in previous local coverage. An April article highlighted a shooting on nearby Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue that wounded a teenage boy and cited city crime data showing that certain neighborhood clusters can see sharp spikes in violence even when citywide numbers shift up and down.
