A man was rushed to the hospital early Tuesday after a suspected targeted drive-by shooting on San Antonio’s West Side, turning a quiet pre-dawn stretch of road into an active crime scene. The gunfire erupted around 5:30 a.m. near Clock Lane and Merida Street, and witnesses told police they saw a red sedan speeding away from the area. According to officers at the scene, the victim was hit in the arm and the bullet traveled into his ribs. His condition has not been released. Investigators recovered numerous shell casings scattered along the roadway.
Scene and investigation
San Antonio police spent the morning combing through evidence, marking and collecting multiple shell casings while canvassing the neighborhood for clues, as reported by WOAI. Witnesses described the car seen racing away, and the department is treating the incident as a suspected targeted attack. Officers have not released a suspect description, according to the station. Detectives continued running down leads into the morning as the investigation remained active.
West Side trend
The shooting adds to a troubling pattern on the West Side in recent months, with incidents ranging from daylight homicides to drive-by attacks that have neighbors and local leaders increasingly on edge. Hoodline has tracked several of those cases, including a June daylight shooting that left a man dead. Residents and advocates say the continuing violence highlights persistent public-safety challenges for the neighborhood.
What officials have released
So far, police have not released the victim’s name, a possible motive or any suspect description, per WOAI. Investigators gathered physical evidence at the intersection and continued processing information well into the morning. The case remains open as detectives pursue leads and look for additional witnesses who might help identify whoever opened fire.
