A quiet stretch of Tuller Street on Detroit’s west side turned into an active crime scene last Saturday morning after a man was found dead following a shooting. Police say they were originally called for a fight between two people and arrived to find the victim at the scene. One person was detained, and officers recovered two weapons as the investigation got underway.
Investigation Underway
According to ClickOnDetroit, officers responded around 9:05 a.m. and quickly locked down the area. Detroit police said the incident appeared to be isolated and that there was no ongoing threat to the public. Animal control crews also showed up, taking in three dogs as detectives stretched crime-scene tape across most of the block and worked through the morning to process evidence.
Violence On The West Side
The killing on Tuller Street lands just days after a separate west-side shooting that left multiple people wounded, adding to concerns about rising neighborhood violence. As reported by CBS News Detroit, officers earlier returned fire after a suspect opened up on a crowd outside a church last Friday, an attack that police also described as an isolated incident.
Neighbors React
Residents said they did not hear any gunfire and instead woke up to flashing lights and a heavy police presence, with patrol cars and investigators lining the block. Several neighbors told reporters that violence in the area is far from rare. “Something needs to change,” one neighbor said, according to ClickOnDetroit.
