A nighttime ride on Ravenna Road in Hudson ended in tragedy today when a 37-year-old motorcyclist was killed after hitting a downed tree, authorities said.
According to officials, the crash happened around 9 p.m. when the motorcycle left the roadway, went into the grass, and struck a fallen tree. The rider was ejected from the bike and was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency crews responded.
Victim identified
The Summit County Medical Examiner identified the rider as 37-year-old Joseph Gindlesperger, according to News 5 Cleveland. Hudson police are investigating the crash.
Investigation and safety context
Hudson officers have not released details about what caused the motorcycle to leave the road, and investigators have not said whether speed, impairment or a mechanical issue played a role.
The City of Hudson has previously documented a history of crashes along the Ravenna and Stow corridor in a traffic study that recommends engineering changes aimed at cutting down on roadway departure and fixed-object collisions.
The Summit County Medical Examiner will complete examinations to finalize the official cause and manner of death.
