A two-vehicle collision at Reseda Boulevard and Lassen Street in Northridge early Wednesday left at least two people injured and one person possibly dead, according to emergency crews. Los Angeles Fire Department and LAPD units shut down the intersection while paramedics treated the victims and detectives launched an investigation. Authorities have not yet identified the injured or released any information about what may have led to the collision.
Early reports from the scene
According to KTLA, LAPD officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection, and the Los Angeles Fire Department reported that two people were transported to local hospitals. A department spokesperson told reporters that one person at the scene may be deceased and another was still being evaluated. Citizen-app video reviewed by KTLA showed a crumpled black SUV and a white canopy set up near the wreckage.

The crash comes as the City of Los Angeles prepares to roll out a Speed Safety System pilot that will install 125 automated speed cameras on priority corridors this year, an effort the Los Angeles Department of Transportation says is meant to cut down on speeding and deadly collisions. The agency notes that speeding contributed to about one in five fatal crashes in the city in 2024. The program is slated to begin with a 60-day warning period before citations are issued, and camera locations were selected using crash and speed data, according to LADOT.

Valley Traffic detectives with the LAPD are handling the investigation, and the intersection remained partially closed into the morning while crews cleared the scene, according to KTLA. Authorities have asked anyone with footage or information to contact LAPD investigators, and more details are expected as detectives finish processing the scene.
