What police say
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman told MyNewsLA that the vehicle was heading north on Lindley Avenue when it ran over the man. The spokesman said the driver stayed at the scene while officers began piecing together what led up to the collision.
Street safety context
City officials have been pushing Vision Zero strategies in an effort to reduce deadly crashes, according to LADOT. The department’s reports note that a relatively small percentage of city streets account for a large share of fatal collisions, and that unsafe speed is consistently identified as a leading factor.
Investigation
Detectives have released few additional details as they work to determine exactly what happened. The victim’s name is still being withheld until next of kin are notified, according to MyNewsLA, and investigators have not yet offered further public comment while the case remains open.
