In a July 9 Facebook post, the Florida Forest Service - Withlacoochee Forestry Center reported the blaze at about 10 acres and said containment was holding around 20 percent. The agency asked people to "stay clear of the area and allow responders space to work" while crews remained on scene.

The Withlacoochee Forestry Center oversees wildfire response and forest management across tracts in west-central Florida, including parts of Pasco County. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services notes that Withlacoochee State Forest stretches across multiple counties and is managed for timber, wildlife and recreation.
Why The Area Is Sensitive
Sections of the Green Swamp and nearby state forest lands are routinely treated with prescribed fire to keep fuel loads in check and reduce the risk of bigger wildfires. The Southwest Florida Water Management District previously issued a prescribed-burn alert in December 2025 near the intersection of State Road 471 and South Grade Road, underscoring that controlled burns are a normal part of land management in this corridor.
