A teenager riding an e-scooter was killed, and another teen on an e-bike was hurt late Monday night after a vehicle slammed into them on Rosecrans Avenue in Lawndale and then kept going, according to deputies.
The collision happened around 10:15 p.m. in the 4200 block of Rosecrans, authorities with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's South Los Angeles Station said. Investigators are treating the crash as a hit-and-run and say the driver took off before deputies arrived.
The juvenile on the e-scooter was pronounced dead at the scene, while the teen on the e-bike suffered minor injuries and was treated and released to his parents, according to CBS Los Angeles. The victim's name has not been released, pending notification of relatives.
Traffic investigators told NBC Los Angeles they have no identifying information yet about the suspect vehicle. Detectives are asking anyone with video or tips to contact LASD Detective Ezequiel Garcia at 323-820-6700 and say they are reviewing surveillance and traffic-camera footage as the investigation moves forward.
Rosecrans remains a high-crash corridor
