Two horses wandering near Cutler Elementary School in Hamilton briefly turned a quiet Monday morning into a roadside spectacle, before a Hamilton police detective stepped in and literally walked the pair back home.
According to WHDH, the animals were spotted roaming around the Cutler School and were soon rounded up by the detective, who led them back to their residence. The station did not identify an owner or say how the horses managed to get loose.
Where It Happened
Cutler Elementary sits at 237 Asbury Street in South Hamilton, surrounded by neighborhood streets and open land typical of the North Shore. That address is listed on the school website, per Cutler School.
Horse Country And Routine Police Work
Hamilton and nearby communities have a long equestrian tradition, including the storied Myopia Hunt Club, a history detailed by The Boston Globe. In a town where horses are part of the landscape, wrangling the occasional escapee is not exactly out of the ordinary for local police.
The town's official patrolman job description explicitly lists "chase/return loose animals, including horses" among routine duties, according to Town of Hamilton documents, which note that officers are expected to handle stray livestock as part of the job.
Officials did not immediately identify the animals' owner, and no further details were available at the time of reporting, per WHDH. Residents who encounter loose livestock are advised to keep their distance and call the Hamilton police non-emergency line so trained officers can respond.
