
What began as a Sunday assault report in northeast Salem ended with three people in custody and a seized firearm, after a 23-year-old man told police he was attacked and struck in the head with a gun.
Officers were dispatched to the 5200 block of Silver Loop NE for the reported assault and quickly tracked the case to a nearby residence. According to police, the people inside surrendered without incident, and investigators recovered a firearm along with other evidence at the scene.
In a media release posted by the Salem Police Department on Facebook, officers said they found the suspects’ vehicle at the nearby home and arrested two adults and a juvenile. The adults were identified as Gabriella Reyes Carteno and Rocky Donvan Gonzalez, and police said a 17-year-old male was also taken into custody.
The department reported that the three face multiple counts, including assault in the second degree, burglary in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing.
Custody and Juvenile Processing
Salem Police said the 17-year-old was lodged at the Marion County Juvenile Department, while Reyes Carteno and Gonzalez were booked into the Marion County Jail. Marion County’s Juvenile Department handles intake and detention at its Center Street NE facility, where youth are processed following arrest, according to Marion County. The county also operates the adult detention facility on Aumsville Highway SE for people booked on felony charges.
Investigation and Next Steps
Detectives with the Salem Police Violent Crimes Unit were called in to help secure a search warrant as the investigation moved forward, according to the department. The case remains active, and police said further inquiries should be directed to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office, as noted in the Salem Police release.
Arrests are allegations, and anyone charged is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
