Seven years after a 15-year-old girl was detained by police in Santa Ana, the man prosecutors say pimped her has admitted to the crimes. Randy Eugene Mccon, 30, pleaded guilty Tuesday to three felony counts tied to the girl's trafficking, with sentencing now scheduled for November.
Mccon pleaded guilty to human trafficking of a minor, attempting to pimp a minor younger than 16 and pandering with a minor younger than 16, according to MyNewsLA.com. The plea came as he was about to go on trial, ending the case's long-pending trial phase before it began.
The Case Began With An Early-Morning Police Contact
Santa Ana police detained the victim just before 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 14, 2019, while she was working on a city corner known for prostitution activity. Mccon told police he knew the teen was working as a prostitute and planned to drive her back to Oakland, with the girl paying him for gas, prosecutors said in a trial brief reported by MyNewsLA.com. The girl's identity was not released.
Sentencing Is Set For November
California law treats pimping and pandering involving a minor as felony offenses. The California Legislature's penal code addresses pimping a minor, while a separate section covers pandering involving a minor.
