A man is recovering from serious injuries after a Saturday night stabbing near the bustling Snelling and University avenues intersection in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood, an area already on edge over safety concerns.
St. Paul police said officers arrived at the scene late Saturday and found the injured man near the corner. He was taken to a local hospital with trauma injuries. Investigators said the attack appears to have been an isolated incident, and no arrests were immediately reported.
Police Seek Video And Witnesses
Investigators are now turning to the public for help. According to KARE 11, police are asking anyone who may have cellphone video or other information to contact the department as they work to identify suspects and piece together what led up to the stabbing.
Authorities told KARE 11 they do not believe the incident is part of a broader pattern of violence in the area, even as they continue to follow leads and review any footage that surfaces.
Why The Corner Matters
The Snelling-and-University intersection has been a recurring flashpoint for neighbors and business owners, who have raised alarms about open drug use and property crime at community meetings in the Hamline-Midway area, according to the Star Tribune.
At the same time, the city is trying to reshape the block. Officials recently outlined plans to redevelop the long-vacant CVS site at the intersection in a city announcement aimed at giving the corridor a fresh start.
For now, detectives say the investigation remains active. Anyone with footage or information is asked to contact the St. Paul Police Department, and to call 911 in an emergency. This story will be updated if authorities release additional details.
