
A late Saturday night at Bronx River Avenue and East 174th Street turned chaotic when an unidentified shooter on a motorized scooter opened fire, wounding two men and then taking off into the night, police said. The shooting happened at about 11:47 p.m., and the suspect fled northbound on Bronx River Avenue. He has not been caught.
According to NYPD Crime Stoppers, the rider pulled up, displayed a gun, and fired multiple rounds. An 18-year-old was hit in the left arm, while a 23-year-old was shot in the torso. Emergency crews took the younger victim to Jacobi Medical Center and the other to St. Barnabas Hospital. Both men were reported in stable condition. Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area or who has video of the incident to come forward.

Detectives are urging anyone who recognizes the scooter rider or has surveillance or cellphone footage from around the time of the shooting to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-577-TIPS, sending a DM to @NYPDTips, or using the online Crime Stoppers portal, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted anonymously, and investigators reviewing this case are already canvassing nearby homes and businesses for additional video that might help identify the suspect.
174th Street Has Seen Recent Violence
The same stretch of East 174th Street has seen more trouble this July. In a separate early-morning incident, a man was slashed and then struck by a car in the area, as reported in Slashed And Run Down. Following a series of violent episodes, local residents and community leaders have been calling for increased patrols along busy neighborhood corridors. Police say detectives are continuing to pull surveillance video and interview witnesses as this latest shooting investigation moves forward.
