A batch of Dr. Zodiak’s Moonrock Snowballz has been yanked from Arizona dispensary shelves after state health auditors discovered that a Scottsdale testing lab reported failed fungus results as passing. The affected item is the Angel City infused flower strain, batch AC120225. The Arizona Department of Health Services says no illnesses have been reported so far. Dispensaries that carried the product have been notified, and the batch has been pulled and held for confirmatory testing. Anyone who bought the product is being told to throw it out or contact the retailer where they purchased it.
ADHS: Failed Aspergillus Tests Were Reported As Passing
According to Phoenix New Times, the Arizona Department of Health Services said inspectors "observed failed testing records for Aspergillus that were reported to marijuana establishments as a passing test." After that finding, ADHS announced a voluntary recall of Dr. Zodiak’s Moonrock Infused Bulk Snowballz, the Angel City infused flower, batch AC120225. The department instructed dispensaries to quarantine any possibly contaminated flower while secondary confirmatory testing is completed.
About the Scottsdale Lab
Level One Labs, licensed as L1 Management, LLC and based in Scottsdale, appears on the state roster of certified marijuana testing laboratories and is authorized to run tests for Aspergillus species and other contaminants. The Arizona Department of Health Services' testing-lab list shows Level One Labs at 1525 N. Granite Reef Rd. and indicates the lab uses methods such as Bio‑Rad qPCR for Salmonella and Aspergillus, among other analyses, according to Arizona Department of Health Services.
What Consumers Should Do
ADHS says possibly contaminated products are being quarantined at the point of sale until secondary confirmatory testing is finished, and anyone who purchased the affected batch should dispose of it, per Phoenix New Times. The department has contacted dispensaries that carried the product, but the state did not immediately release the grower’s license tied to the recalled batch. People with chronic lung conditions or weakened immune systems who believe they used the product are advised to consult a healthcare provider.
Why This Matters
Aspergillus is a common environmental mold that can trigger allergic reactions or, in people with weakened immune systems or chronic lung disease, invasive infections, according to Cleveland Clinic. ADHS auditors have prompted voluntary recalls after detecting testing irregularities before, as outlined in previous ADHS recall notices and public posts from the agency, according to Arizona Department of Health Services.
ADHS says it will update its public notices as confirmatory results come in, and anyone with questions can contact the agency or their dispensary. We will update this story if the department or Level One Labs publish further information.
