Seattle’s International District/Chinatown Branch is reopening Thursday after a strong odor and dead rodents were found in an electrical room, ending an unexpected interruption for one of the Chinatown-International District’s key public spaces.
The Seattle Public Library says the branch will resume its normal schedule Thursday. The reopening follows the issue detailed by KING 5, which reported that the odor and dead rodents were discovered in an electrical room.
For a neighborhood where libraries function as more than book-lending counters, the return is a meaningful one. The branch offers study rooms, public computers, Wi-Fi, printing and scanning, and collections in Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese, according to The Seattle Public Library.
Branch Returns With Regular Hours
The International District/Chinatown Branch is listed as open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, closed Friday, and open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The library also says its book-return slot remains available around the clock.
The branch is inside International District Village Square II, where the library describes itself as a place community members often visit to socialize and read. After the cleanup and reopening, patrons can once again use the location for browsing, internet access, study time and neighborhood programs.
