Wylie is getting another fast-food heavyweight, and this one is bringing crinkle-cut fries, frozen shakes and a drive-thru to the burger fight. Shake Shack has lined up a planned $1.3 million restaurant along FM 544, giving the rapidly growing North Texas suburb a new contender for burger supremacy.

The New York-based chain has submitted plans for its first Wylie location, about 30 minutes northeast of downtown Dallas, according to MySA. The official street number has not been announced, but filings place the project along East FM 544.

A New Drive-Thru Shack For FM 544

A Wylie Planning and Zoning Commission packet identifies the proposed Shake Shack site along W FM 544 in Collin County. The project documents show a roughly 3,000-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru lane, a design that could make the brand more convenient for suburban commuters than many of its mall and urban locations.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing cited by MySA targets a construction start of October 19 and a projected completion date of May 3, 2027. That timeline points to a Cinco de Mayo-season debut at the earliest, though no opening date has been announced.

Wylie's Burger Competition Gets A New Contender

Shake Shack's existing Dallas-area restaurants serve the chain's familiar lineup of burgers, chicken sandwiches, crinkle-cut fries, frozen custard and shakes, according to the company's official location page. The Wylie project would be notable not just for adding another restaurant, but for bringing a drive-thru format to a market where convenience is practically its own food group.

Wylie already has a Whataburger with a 24-hour drive-thru at 350 S Highway 78, according to the burger chain's official restaurant listing. MySA reports that Shake Shack now has 15 restaurants across Dallas, Fort Worth and nearby towns, with more than 30 locations statewide, so the Wylie project is less a one-off burger landing than another step in the company's Texas expansion.
