Late Saturday night in Southwest D.C., gunfire near the King Greenleaf Recreation Center sent police racing to the scene and left one man hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
Shooting details
According to WJLA, officers first found the victim across from the First District police station in the 100 block of M Street SW at about 9:38 p.m. Investigators later traced the gunfire to the 200 block of N Street SW, near the King Greenleaf Recreation Center, where they located evidence of a shooting. Police said there was no suspect description available immediately after the incident. The investigation remains active, and authorities are asking anyone with information to call 202-727-9099 or text tips to 50411.
Neighborhood context
The shooting is the latest in a string of gun incidents around the Southwest waterfront. Earlier this spring, a teenage boy was shot near the Waterfront Metro station in April, as reported by FOX 5 DC. Leading into the July 4 holiday stretch, the Metropolitan Police Department had also announced a youth curfew zone that included the nearby Navy Yard area for the July 3–5 weekend, according to an MPD press release.
How to help
Detectives say the probe is ongoing and have not yet released any suspect description. Anyone who might have witnessed the shooting, captured video, or has information that could help the investigation is urged to contact MPD's tip line at 202-727-9099 or text 50411, per WJLA.
