Gunfire ripped through a northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood early Thursday, turning a home into a bullet-riddled crime scene while everyone inside somehow walked away unharmed. Deputies arrived to find the exterior of the house speckled with holes and surveillance video showing rounds had punched through the front door, according to authorities. Investigators say they still do not know who pulled the trigger as detectives work the block and sift through evidence.
According to WSVN, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office units were sent out just after 3:40 a.m. following a ShotSpotter alert in the area of Northwest 12th Avenue and 72nd Street. When they got there, deputies found the home’s exterior scarred by gunfire, and cameras captured bullet holes in the front door. No one inside was hurt.
Investigators comb the scene
The sheriff’s office said detectives spent the morning processing the scene, picking up shell casings, reviewing surveillance footage and knocking on doors to see who might have heard or seen anything. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office routinely sends units to locations flagged by ShotSpotter alerts, a practice outlined by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
ShotSpotter's local role
ShotSpotter activations have been driving rapid responses across northwest Miami-Dade this year, including an April incident that left a man hospitalized after gunfire, according to gunfire hurts man. The acoustic system is used to flag overnight gunfire and guide deputies to possible evidence even when no one calls 911 right away.
No arrests have been announced and investigators have not released any suspect descriptions, WSVN reports. Deputies are asking anyone with video or information to contact the sheriff’s office as the investigation continues, and officials say updates will roll out through local news outlets and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office channels.
