A deadly burst of gunfire near North 27th Street and West Atkinson Avenue shook Milwaukee’s Garden Homes neighborhood, leaving at least one person dead and a busy stretch of sidewalk behind police tape, authorities said.
Neighbors described a heavy police response outside a row of businesses, with squad cars and crime tape cutting off access to part of the block as the investigation got underway.
Jasmine Franklin, a 12 News reporter at the scene, said the sidewalk in front of multiple stores was roped off and that at least two vehicles appeared to be damaged by bullets, according to WISN. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed it had been called out, and 12 News reported it had requested more information from Milwaukee police but had not yet received a response.
Area Has Seen Recent Violence
This intersection and the nearby blocks are no strangers to tragedy. In October 2025, a double homicide near 27th and Atkinson was captured on surveillance video, TMJ4 reported.
