Silav Cafe & Grill is serving its last meals at its downtown Columbus location Friday, closing after two years while its owners prepare to relocate. The Kurdish restaurant says the pause is temporary, but the next address and reopening date remain under wraps.
The restaurant announced earlier this week that Friday would be its final day at its current South High Street location. According to Columbus Underground, Silav planned to remain open until 8 p.m. before closing for the move.
The owners struck a hopeful tone in an Instagram announcement, thanking customers for their support and saying, “This is not a goodbye — it’s simply a pause.” They also said future updates about the restaurant will continue to appear on Instagram, though no new location or reopening timeline has been announced.
Silav Brought Kurdish Food To Downtown Columbus
Friends Ikhlos Muhammad and Kouzan Abdullah opened Silav in July 2024 after struggling to find the Kurdish food they wanted in Columbus. In its opening coverage, Columbus Underground described the restaurant as a downtown destination for Kurdish cooking with Middle Eastern influences, including naan, kebabs, gyros, falafel and grilled meat platters.
The restaurant’s menu grew into an all-day lineup, with breakfast bowls and omelettes alongside halal Kurdish and Middle Eastern lunches and dinners. Silav’s official website also highlights dishes such as chicken shawarma, kebab platters, hummus, falafel, house-made drinks, teas and desserts.
