Temperatures are already in the 90s this morning, and forecasters expect a high near 110°F this afternoon with heat-index readings up to about 106°F. Overnight, the heat barely lets up, with lows only slipping into the upper 80s to low 90s.
Afternoon Highs And The Week Ahead
The National Weather Service expects triple-digit heat to stick around all week, with afternoon highs near 110°F Monday and a dangerous stretch in the mid-to-upper 110s possible later in the week. The hottest period is expected from Thursday through Sunday and could challenge daily records, according to NWS Las Vegas.
How Officials Are Responding
Clark County and the Southern Nevada Health District have opened daytime cooling stations at libraries, community centers and recreation sites so people without reliable air conditioning have somewhere to cool off. County officials are urging older adults, outdoor workers and medically vulnerable residents to use these locations during the hottest part of the day; the current list and hours are posted online at Clark County.
Who Should Take Extra Care
Heat is especially risky for older adults, infants, people with chronic illnesses and anyone doing strenuous work outside. Watch for dizziness, heavy sweating, confusion or fainting, and call 911 if you see signs of heat stroke. Never leave children or pets in parked cars, even for a short time, and try to schedule outdoor chores for early morning or evening whenever you can.
