Six years after a man was found fatally shot inside his East Mount Airy rowhouse, family members and investigators are again pleading for someone to come forward. Relatives identified the victim as 46-year-old Anthony Abel, who was discovered only after neighbors went to check on him when he stopped answering calls. The renewed push comes as loved ones say they are still living with painful uncertainty, and the city has put a reward on the table.
According to 6abc, which published its report on July 26, 2026, Abel was found on April 17, 2020, shot multiple times and seated in a chair in his bedroom on the 200 block of Montana Street. Investigators later determined he had been killed around April 14. The station reports the City of Philadelphia is offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. Family members told the station they first became alarmed after several days without contact and asked neighbors to check the house.
The Citizens Crime Commission operates the city's anonymous tipline at 215-546-TIPS (215-546-8477), and its website explains callers are given a code and may qualify for a reward if their information leads to an arrest and conviction. Citizens Crime Commission says calls are answered 24/7 by live operators and that rewards have helped bring forward information in other investigations.
Family Renews Plea For Answers
“It's very heart breaking, and for his children and other family members just as well. He wasn't just a son or brother, nephew, whatever, he was a protector,” Abel's mother said in an interview with 6abc. Family members said they are asking anyone who saw people entering or leaving Abel's home around mid-April 2020, or who heard anything suspicious, to contact investigators.
