Wednesday kicked off at Nashville International (KBNA) mostly clear and around 73°F, with the kind of very high humidity that hits you the second you open the door. Patchy fog is expected before 8 a.m., especially in low-lying neighborhoods and areas that picked up rain Tuesday evening.
Morning Fog, Sticky Heat
That fog should burn off by midmorning, giving way to partly sunny skies and a high near 90°F. It will feel hotter than the thermometer suggests, with heat index values likely pushing into the upper 90s. There is also a slight chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., with new rainfall amounts generally under a tenth of an inch, according to NWS Nashville.
Afternoon Commute And Outdoor Plans
Winds will stay light and variable, so any storms that do pop up will be hit-or-miss and slow-moving. Drivers should be ready for reduced visibility in the usual fog-prone spots during the morning commute, and anyone working or exercising outside will want to pace themselves and grab frequent water breaks as the humidity cranks up.
Weekend Outlook
Rain and storm chances rise later in the week. Friday into Saturday currently looks like the prime window for showers and thunderstorms, with a better shot at storms capable of producing heavy rain and localized ponding. Temperatures head into the low 90s over the weekend, and forecasters say heat index values could reach the low 100s in parts of Middle Tennessee by Saturday and into early next week.
Plan Ahead
Stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles. Metro cooling options and public library branches remain available — see this June 29 guide for local cooling locations, including Room In The Inn's Hope U Day Center at 705 Drexel Street.
