A familiar South L.A. address for firefighters saw flames again Tuesday morning, but this time the outcome was far less dramatic. Los Angeles Fire Department crews rushed to a structure fire at 2624 S Maple Ave in Historic South-Central, where a blaze broke out inside a two-story, eight-unit apartment building.
Arriving companies found the fire confined to a single upstairs unit, and firefighters quickly called in an additional task force as they pushed to get conditions under control. Primary searches on the second floor came back clear, and officials reported no exposures, no patients and no firefighter injuries at the scene.
What crews reported
According to LAFD, the incident was logged as INC#0602 at 9:40 a.m., with the update "MAPLE IC updated size up" after companies confirmed the fire was contained to one apartment. Multiple companies from Fire Station 14 and Battalion 1 were listed on scene, and the department noted that no additional structures were threatened as operations shifted to containment.
LAFD also requested an extra task force to support extinguishment and overhaul, keeping firefighters on site as they opened up the unit and checked for any remaining hot spots.
Building history and neighborhood
The building at 2624 S Maple has a recent fire history. Hoodline previously reported on a late-night blaze there on Oct. 2, 2025 that prompted ladder rescues and left several apartments damaged, describing a "Heroic Rescue by Los Angeles Firefighters." That earlier coverage noted the Department of Building and Safety later issued a red tag, and the Red Cross responded to help displaced residents.
