A Southfield tenant says three break-ins in five months have turned her apartment into a place she no longer feels safe entering. She has boarded up the window used by the intruders and is now staying with a relative while police investigate.
Shannon Rivers told ClickOnDetroit that each reported break-in happened through her son’s bedroom window at Pine Aire Apartments. She said clothing, shoes and electronics were taken, while her overnight job at a pharmaceutical company often leaves the unit empty during late hours.
Three Reported Break-Ins Hit The Same Apartment
The latest incident was reported on Monday, according to Rivers, who said a safe containing important personal documents was stolen. She also believes the person who entered may have cut themselves on broken glass because police found a bloody towel in the bathroom.
The incidents come as Southfield police records show several separate breaking-and-entering cases elsewhere in the city during the week of last Monday through Sunday. The Southfield Police Department’s weekly crime report listed an attempted window entry, an apartment theft involving jewelry and handbags, and a pharmacy break-in. The same bulletin lists the department’s Crime Prevention Bureau as a resource for free home security inspections.
Rivers said apartment management has not offered meaningful help, and the property has no security cameras. A leasing-office employee told Local 4 that camera installation is up to the landlord, who has declined to add them “at this time.” The station said it left two voicemails for the property manager during business hours without receiving a response by Thursday evening. Rivers said she gets shaky when she returns to the apartment and does not like going inside alone. For now, the boarded-up bedroom window and the missing safe are reminders of why she says she is ready to leave Pine Aire for good.
