A Dallas police officer was treated for minor injuries Friday evening after a marked squad car collided with a pickup truck in Downtown Dallas, authorities said. The crash happened around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Jackson and Ervay streets, damaging both vehicles and tying up traffic in the busy downtown corridor.
According to FOX 4, the officer received medical attention at the scene for minor injuries. The Dallas Police Department has not confirmed whether the officer had been responding to a separate shooting nearby at the time of the crash. The department also declined to say whether the pickup driver was injured or what led to the collision.
Holiday Policing And Downtown Crowds
The crash unfolded as Dallas police rolled out an expanded public safety plan for the Fourth of July weekend, which included temporary street and bridge closures along with increased patrols in the downtown area. NBC 5 reported that the department anticipated heavier foot and vehicle traffic and scheduled additional officers for event zones.
Investigations Underway
Officials say both the collision scene and the nearby Commerce Street shooting scene remain under investigation. They have released a few additional details, including whether the two incidents are connected. Initial information about the crash and the officer’s injuries came from the Dallas Police Department, as reported by FOX 4, and investigators have not announced any further updates.
