A domestic violence warrant turned into an hours-long SWAT standoff Friday in St. Matthews, where police say the barricaded suspect shot himself before officers removed him from the home on a stretcher.
[b1] St. Matthews police went to serve the warrant at a time reported as around 8:30 a.m. by WLKY and around 11 a.m. by WHAS11 near Taggart and McArthur drives, close to Planet Fitness, according to WLKY. The suspect had barricaded himself inside the residence, prompting the department’s SWAT team to respond, as noted by WHAS11.
SWAT Used A Flash Bang And Broke A Window
During the standoff, SWAT officers used a flash bang and busted a window in the house, police said. St. Matthews police also reported that no officers drew their weapons during the response.
Police removed the suspect from the home on a stretcher just before 4 p.m., as reported by WLKY. Authorities said the suspect had shot himself, but his condition was not immediately available, and no one else was hurt.
In a separate incident, WDRB reported that on 05 Mar 2025, a man died after a standoff in Louisville's Shawnee neighborhood, with police saying he took his own life.
