The agency's filing says the certification label lists an incorrect gross axle weight rating (GAWR), which could allow owners to unintentionally exceed axle limits and increase crash risk. The filing also notes that dealers will apply corrected labels at no cost and that Nissan will mail replacement stickers to registered owners.
Label errors are showing up across automakers
This is not an isolated paperwork problem. Labeling mistakes have been popping up across the industry this month. Subaru pulled more than 541,000 SUVs into a GAWR-label recall earlier in July, and regulators have logged similar certification-label campaigns for other automakers. Those fixes typically involve mailing overlay stickers or having dealers apply corrected labels, rather than replacing parts, according to reporting by the AP.
What owners should do
Owners of Armada and Infiniti QX models should plug their VIN into the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall lookup tool and keep an eye out for an owner letter with instructions. Dealers will apply corrected certification labels free of charge, and federal rules require those labels to list accurate GVWR and GAWR values under 49 CFR Part 567, which the agency enforces.
