The Philadelphia Union rolled out a fresh slate of Subaru Park upgrades in Chester on Monday as Major League Soccer play resumed after the World Cup pause. Fans heading to the Delaware River waterfront will see new theatrical lighting, revamped concessions and quicker entry procedures, all aimed at reshaping the matchday experience for the club’s first run of home games since the international break.
New lights and matchday presentation
The headline upgrade is a multi-million-dollar theatrical sports lighting system designed to punch up player introductions, goal celebrations and the overall night-game atmosphere, according to Philadelphia Union. The club also refreshed its concession partners and specialty offerings as part of the overhaul. Those additions follow a speaker upgrade last season and are meant to create a more immersive in-stadium presentation for supporters.
Smart campus tech
Off the pitch, Subaru Park got a high-tech facelift. More than 300 Juganu smart light fixtures were installed across the campus, with roughly 100 of them equipped with built-in AI video analytics to monitor parking, traffic and safety, Juganu said. The network is intended to feed real-time operational data and extend public Wi-Fi from the lots into the bowl, helping staff manage crowds on match nights.
Food, retail and smoother entry
Aramark returns as the official food-and-beverage partner, and new vendors include Primo Hoagies, PJ Whelihan’s and Hatfield, along with a Copper Bonnet Distillery presence, the club announced. The team is also rolling out SeatGeek features, including a standing-room area and a SeatGeek Seat Upgrade promotion, and will use Evolv security scanners at the gates to speed entry, according to Philadelphia Union. The Union shop is stocking new merchandise, and the concourses are set to look different once the upgrades are fully in place.
EV chargers and the World Cup tie
Comcast Smart Solutions partnered on the campus improvements, installing Level-2 EV chargers at the WSFS Bank Sportsplex and deploying AI-enabled lighting across parking areas and walkways to bolster security and sustainability, according to a Comcast press release on the company site. The timing lined up with Subaru Park’s role as a training base for Côte d’Ivoire during the World Cup, a development covered earlier this year in local reporting on Ivory Coast’s waterfront World Cup camp.
What fans should expect
Supporters returning for home matches, including when the Union host Red Bull New York on July 22, should see updated concourses, new food options and different traffic flows, local reporting noted.
