In the middle of the afternoon at Manhattan’s 14 Street subway station, a routine trip turned ugly for a 78-year-old woman when she was shoved to the ground after being told to move aside, police say.
According to the NYPD, the assault took place around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, inside the station. After allegedly demanding that the woman move to the side, the individual pushed her, sending her to the floor and leaving her with minor injuries to her knees. The person then fled the scene, and detectives are now looking for help from the public.
The department released a Crime Stoppers alert on Wednesday along with surveillance footage and is asking anyone who might recognize the individual to come forward. The appeal was shared through NYPD Crime Stoppers.
Tips Can Be Submitted Anonymously
The NYPD says its Crime Stoppers program offers rewards of up to $3,500 for anonymous information that leads to the arrest and indictment of a violent felon. Tips can be submitted by calling 800-577-TIPS, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers.
Anyone with information about the subway assault can also send a direct message to @NYPDTips, as noted in the police alert. Investigators are particularly interested in hearing from riders who were in the station around the time of the incident and may have seen anything that could help identify the person being sought.
