A suspected DUI driver turned a routine Anderson County traffic stop into a fiery crash Wednesday, deputies said, fleeing from law enforcement before smashing into a trailer and setting the vehicle ablaze.
According to a report by WYFF, deputies activated their blue lights during the traffic stop, but the driver allegedly took off. The pursuit ended near the White Street exit and Nates Berry Road, where the vehicle crashed into a trailer, as reported by FOX Carolina. According to Anderson County's website, "The Road Index (below) lists every road in the county according to the Anderson County Department of GIS119 pages," which is the county's official listing of local road names such as Nates Berry Road.
Driver Arrested After Crash Near White Street
The vehicle caught fire after the collision; deputies said the driver fled during the pursuit and was arrested at the scene after the crash. Officials reported no injuries, although the driver was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said additional information about the suspect’s identity would be released after booking, as reported by WYFF. WYFF did not say whether any formal charges had been filed.
According to a page on Anderson County's website, SCDOT maintains a listing of "SCDOT Road Projects in Anderson County," which is the state agency source for roadway project and classification information in the area.
The incident remains under investigation, and authorities have not released details about what led deputies to suspect the driver was impaired or how much damage the trailer sustained.
