A late-night rescue in Sylmar turned dramatic on Tuesday when a vehicle went over the side and dropped about 25 feet into the Pacoima Wash, forcing Los Angeles firefighters into a cliff-style operation to reach the trapped occupant.
According to an alert from the LAFD, crews arrived to find the vehicle in the wash below the roadway and had to extricate a patient from the wreck. Firefighters then prepped the patient for an air hoist to a local hospital, with roughly 40 LAFD members working the rescue from both ground and air.
Station 91 Leads High-Stakes Valley Bureau Rescue
The incident was handled under Fire Station 91 and Battalion 12, with specialized rescue and air operations units dispatched to the scene. The Los Angeles Police Department was also called in for support and logged the incident under number 4387.
Cause Of Plunge And Patient’s Condition Still Unclear
Officials did not immediately release the patient’s age or condition, whether anyone else was inside the vehicle, or why the vehicle left the roadway. As of Wednesday morning, no additional details had been made public.
