On a Mount Eden block already reeling from weekend violence, a 15-year-old girl was slashed and robbed Sunday night, police said.
The attack happened just after 9 p.m. near East 174th Street and Walton Avenue, where two women allegedly approached the teen and began assaulting her. During the struggle, the suspects took a fanny pack that held the girl's phone, leaving her with a wound to her upper right thigh, according to police.
Two women arrested, police say
Officers arrested two women in connection with the incident. Authorities identified 18-year-old British Stubbs, who is charged with assault, robbery and harassment, and 19-year-old Akeelah Garret, who faces charges of robbery, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, as reported by News12. Investigators say the case remains under active review.
Violence has struck the block this weekend
The slashing came just a day after a triple shooting in Mount Eden that left a 12-year-old boy dead and two men wounded, underscoring a grim stretch for the neighborhood, according to NBC New York. That shooting occurred near Elliot Place and Walton Avenue and prompted an NYPD investigation.
Investigation ongoing
Police have not released a motive or additional details about the 15-year-old's condition beyond the thigh wound, per News12. Detectives with the NYPD are continuing to investigate and have not released further information.
