A 16-year-old boy was shot late Monday morning on a South Philadelphia block that has already seen deadly violence in recent years, according to police.
Philadelphia police say officers were called around 10:01 a.m. to the 2600 block of Latona Street for a report of a person shot. When they arrived, they found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was listed in stable condition.

Officers responding to the shooting call discovered the 16-year-old at the scene, NBC10 Philadelphia reports. According to the station, police said no arrests had been made and no weapon had been recovered as of their report. Authorities told NBC10 the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.
Block's recent violence
The 2600 block of Latona Street has already been on neighbors' radar for the worst reasons. Last year, a woman was killed in a shooting on the same block, according to reporting by 6ABC. Residents told reporters at the time that the violence left the block shaken, and authorities later arrested a suspect in that case.
