A late-night shooting on Brooks Drive in Temple Hills left a 31-year-old Capitol Heights woman dead Saturday, and her former boyfriend is now facing murder charges, according to authorities.

Police say the victim, identified as Dakota Keys, was found fatally shot inside a vehicle on the 1900 block of Brooks Drive. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her former boyfriend later turned himself in and is now in custody.

The Prince George's County Police Department identified the suspect as 31-year-old Terrence Penn Jr. of Temple Hills and said he is charged with first- and second-degree murder. Officers were called to the scene at about 10:10 p.m., where they found Keys in the vehicle with gunshot wounds, according to the Prince George's County Police Department.

Both Keys and Penn Jr. are 31 years old. A motive has not been released, and detectives have not shared additional details about what led up to the shooting as the Homicide Unit continues its investigation, according to WJLA.
