Three women were injured Tuesday night when roughly 30 rounds tore across a southeast Houston convenience-store parking lot, sending one victim fleeing in her car and leaving investigators searching for whoever opened fire.
The shooting happened around 10:40 p.m. outside a convenience store in the 9100 block of Scott Street, according to Click2Houston. Investigators believe the shots came from a grassy area across the street, and police said two women in their mid-30s were each hit once in the arm while standing in the parking lot.
A third woman, in her mid-40s, was struck in the hand while inside a vehicle leaving the area. She drove to the 1200 block of Vera Lou Street, where officers found her; all three women were taken to hospitals and are expected to recover.
Officers were nearby and arrived within moments after hearing what HPD described as rapid gunfire. One bullet pierced the convenience store and hit a cooler inside, but no customers or employees were hurt, Click2Houston reported.
Suspects And Motive Remain Unknown
Police believe the shooters may have escaped on foot before getting into a vehicle, and an HPD helicopter searched nearby but did not locate anyone. As of Wednesday morning, investigators had not identified suspects or established a motive.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the gunfire came from an automatic weapon or rifle, despite the rapid-fire description. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers of Houston.
