Monday, July 27, ended in tragedy at Lake Royale in Franklin County when a 25-year-old man was pulled from the water and later pronounced dead. First responders recovered his body inside the private, gated waterfront community near Louisburg, and officials have not publicly released his name. The incident triggered a multi-agency response to the lake.
According to WRAL, first responders recovered the man’s body early Monday. The station reported that authorities pulled him from Lake Royale and did not immediately release additional details. WRAL’s brief item appears to be the earliest local report on the drowning.

Franklin County lists the Youngsville Rescue Dive Team and Franklin County EMS among its local water-rescue resources, according to Franklin County. The county has also held dive-team training at Lake Royale’s Moccasin Boat Ramp, per a 2023 advisory from Franklin County. Inside the gates, the community is patrolled by the private Lake Royale Company Police, which typically works with county teams on serious incidents in and around the water.

Area officials regularly remind boaters and swimmers to wear life jackets and use extra caution on crowded summer waters. A June incident at Jordan Lake, where a 44-year-old man drowned after going into the water to retrieve a drifting boat, is one of several recent reminders of those risks, according to WRAL.
