A quiet Zephyrhills neighborhood turned into an active emergency scene yesterdayafternoon after a large tree crashed onto a house in the Brisk Drive area, leaving one person dead inside, according to authorities.
Neighbors called for help after seeing the tree come down on the home. Pasco County Fire Rescue crews responded alongside Pasco Sheriff’s Office deputies, who later confirmed the death and opened a formal investigation. Officials said there were no immediate signs of criminal activity.
What Officials Reported
Deputies were dispatched shortly before 4:30 p.m. following reports of a tree collapsing onto a residence, according to Tampa Bay 28. When emergency crews got to the scene, they found one person dead inside the home, the station reported.
Investigation Under Way
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office said the incident “does not appear to be criminal in nature” and is being handled as a death investigation, Tampa Bay 28 reports. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name or the cause of death as investigators and crews continue their work at the scene.
Local Storm Risks
Falling trees are a familiar threat in this part of Florida once stormy weather ramps up. In mid-May, meteorologists confirmed two EF0 tornadoes in Pasco County that led to broken tree limbs and minor roof damage, a reminder that even relatively weak wind events can bring trees down. Spectrum News reported the tornado confirmations.
Pasco Sheriff’s Office and Pasco County Fire Rescue had not released additional details as of Monday evening. This remains a developing story and will be updated as officials share more information.
