Two men are facing three charges each after a shooting in Goldsboro triggered a ShotSpotter alert last week, with one suspect coming from Garner. Both are being held without bond as investigators work to determine what led to the gunfire.
According to ABC11, Goldsboro police responded last Thursday to the 800 block of East End Circle after the alert. Investigators identified Jaimear Tyshawn Lofton, 18, of Goldsboro, and Caleb Antonio Maye, 20, of Garner, as suspects. Lofton was arrested at a Goldsboro home, while the Wake County Sheriff's Office served Maye with arrest warrants.
Three Charges Each In Goldsboro Case
Police charged both men with discharging a weapon into occupied property, possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a firearm within city limits. The public report did not identify the property allegedly struck, disclose a motive or say whether anyone was injured. The charges are allegations, and the case remains active.
What North Carolina Law Says
North Carolina law makes it a felony to willfully or wantonly fire a qualifying weapon into occupied property, with the classification varying based on whether the target is an occupied building, dwelling or vehicle, according to the North Carolina General Assembly. State law separately prohibits people with felony convictions from possessing firearms, while another statute allows cities to regulate or prohibit firearm discharges within city limits.
ABC11 reported that the investigation is still underway. Authorities have not announced whether additional arrests or charges are expected.
