A Fort Worth homicide investigation that began with a wounded 26-year-old arriving at a hospital has now produced two arrests, six weeks after the shooting. Authorities say both men are facing murder charges in connection with Byron DaCameron Cherry’s death.
Quinton Robinson and Marquette Harmon were arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Tarrant County Jail, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Robinson also faces charges of engaging in organized criminal activity, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest and failure to identify, while Harmon is additionally charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon and evading arrest.
Cherry, who was 26, died after being shot in Fort Worth on June 16. His family remembered him as outgoing and warm in an obituary published by Golden Gate Funeral Home, which said he was known for his laughter, generosity and ability to make people feel welcome.
Police initially said Cherry was brought to John Peter Smith Hospital late that night after suffering gunshot wounds. A June report by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said he had been shot twice in the upper torso and that investigators were interviewing the people who transported him to the emergency room.
Police Report Details Evidence Recovered
Investigators identified the shooting location as the 1300 block of East Baltimore Avenue, according to the newer report. Evidence listed in the police report included pieces of clothing, fired shell casings, DNA swabs and bullet fragments recovered from Cherry’s body.
Both men were listed as being held in the Tarrant County Jail on bonds exceeding $1 million. The arrest records do not establish a final outcome in the case, and the allegations will be tested in court.
Charges Remain Allegations
Robinson and Harmon are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Their arrests mark the first publicly reported break in a case that began when detectives were still trying to determine where Cherry had been shot and who was responsible.
