One of Las Vegas' most beloved Halloween institutions is going dark for 2026. Freakling Bros. Horror Shows has announced it will skip the upcoming season, leaving a gaping hole in the valley's fall scare lineup.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the haunt confirmed in a statement that co-owner and creative director JT Mollner will step away for the season so he can fully commit to his next film. Reporter Christopher Lawrence notes that the pause is being framed as a necessary timeout while the company’s key creative mind focuses on outside projects.
Freakling Bros' Place In Vegas Halloween
Freakling Bros. began as a family yard haunt in 1976 and has since become a fixture of Las Vegas Halloween culture. Over the decades, the operation evolved into a full-blown seasonal attraction and, in 2011, debuted Nevada's first R-rated haunted house, Gates of Hell. The group is best known for its Trilogy of Terror lineup and intensely actor-driven scares that have turned it into a fall destination for locals and hardcore haunt tourists alike. The Nest Comeback That Was Planned
The 2026 pause lands on top of an already planned break. Freakling Bros. had previously opted out of the 2025 season to construct a new flagship attraction called "The Nest," with local coverage noting a big return was on the books for 2026. FOX5 Las Vegas reported that the company pitched The Nest as the official successor to longtime fan favorite Castle Vampyre. With this latest hiatus, that comeback is now on hold and fans are left wondering when they will actually get to walk through the new experience.
Mollner’s Film Push
The immediate reason for the pause is Mollner’s expanding film career. Industry coverage has tied the timing directly to his next feature, Skeletons, which is set for a summer 2027 release. ComingSoon reports that Sony has locked in a June 4, 2027 theatrical date for the Bad Robot-produced creature feature starring Brie Larson, a schedule the studio and production team say will require Mollner’s full attention.
Where To Get Your Scares This Fall
Anyone who normally plans their October around Freakling Bros. will have to shift their scare strategy. Across the valley, AREA15’s Universal Horror Unleashed and a variety of seasonal pop-up haunts are expected to soak up much of the Halloween demand. The year-round Universal Horror Unleashed attraction continues to draw both tourists and locals and is being marketed as a high-production alternative to traditional seasonal haunted houses. In the meantime, Freakling Bros. says it will share updates and future ticket information through its official channels.
