Walmart has poured more than $11 million into a major remodel of its Baxter Supercenter, according to company and local officials, promising faster pickup and a cleaner, easier-to-navigate layout for shoppers across the Brainerd Lakes area. The overhaul wrapped up this spring and was capped with a staff recognition event, part of a broader push to modernize grocery pickup and in-store technology.
Part of a statewide upgrade
In an April press release, Walmart announced plans to remodel 16 Minnesota stores this year as part of wider investments in both in-store and digital shopping. The Baxter Supercenter at 7295 Glory Road is on that list, with the work described as layout and service upgrades meant to make in-person shopping and online pickup simpler for customers, according to Business Wire.
What changed at the Baxter store
Store manager Jerrod Brademan told Brainerd Dispatch the roughly 16-week project reworked pickup lanes, added new technology and expanded staging areas so the store can handle far more online orders. He said the store currently processes about 600 to 700 pickup orders a day and is aiming to boost that capacity to roughly 1,200 to 1,300 daily orders. The Supercenter also taps third-party Spark shoppers for delivery, according to the Dispatch.
The site marked the completion of the project with a grand-opening style staff recognition event in May and has committed more than $12,000 in donations to local groups through May 2026, the Dispatch reported.
What shoppers will notice
Walmart materials say the remodeled stores are designed to cut down wait times for online orders and expand services such as pharmacy pickup and vision care, with some delivery options advertised as available "in as little as an hour." Customers at the Baxter location should see clearer signage and quicker collection lanes as the revamped pickup system settles in, per Business Wire.
The Baxter Supercenter sits at 7295 Glory Road, and shoppers can check store hours and pickup availability on Walmart's online store page or through local listings. For more on the investment and community response, see coverage in Brainerd Dispatch or the store listing on MapQuest.
