A 36-year-old woman was shot and killed Wednesday night in West Baltimore, turning an ordinary weeknight into a crime scene along one of the city’s most scrutinized corridors.
Police say the shooting happened around 9:19 p.m. near the 2600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. Officers arrived, provided aid at the scene, and had the woman rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts.
An early report from WMAR‑2 News outlined those details and noted that investigators were working the scene. That initial account remains the primary public description of what happened as detectives continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses.
Police Ask For Tips
Baltimore Police are asking anyone who saw or heard anything to contact homicide detectives at 410‑396‑2100 or call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1‑866‑7LOCKUP, according to the Baltimore Police Department. Tipsters can also submit information anonymously online through the Metro Crime Stoppers tip form.
Detectives say they will pursue any credible lead as they work to piece together what led up to the shooting and who is responsible.
Pennsylvania Avenue Corridor And The Western District
The Pennsylvania Avenue corridor sits inside Baltimore’s Western District, a long-time focus of the city’s violence reduction efforts. A study by the University of Pennsylvania’s Crime and Justice Policy Lab found that the Group Violence Reduction Strategy was associated with roughly a 25 percent decline in shootings and homicides in the Western District after it launched, according to the Crime and Justice Policy Lab.
Even with those gains, local reporting and tracking by WMAR‑2 News show shootings are still occurring along the corridor this year.
Detectives remained on scene Wednesday night and said additional details will be released as they become available. Neighbors who may have surveillance footage or direct eyewitness information are urged to contact the homicide unit.
