West Seattle woke up to a broad power outage Thursday morning, with more than 4,400 homes and businesses suddenly dark across parts of the peninsula. The disruption reached communities around the Alaska Junction and North Admiral, and it was already setting off alarms at some businesses.
The outage began before dawn, and West Seattle Blog reported that Seattle City Light’s outage map showed more than 4,400 customers without service. Reports from residents placed outages near 36th Avenue Southwest and Brandon Street, 42nd Avenue Southwest and Alaska Street, and elsewhere around the Junction and Admiral areas. The blog also noted police were responding to businesses where alarms had been triggered.
Cause And Restoration Time Were Not Yet Posted
As of the initial report, no specific cause or restoration estimate had been confirmed. The outage report did not indicate whether the problem involved equipment, vegetation, a crash, or another issue, leaving customers waiting for the utility’s next update.
Seattle City Light says its public outage map is updated every five minutes, while warning that information during large or emergency outages can be delayed or incomplete. The utility directs customers to report outages at 206-684-3000 and says anyone who sees a downed line should stay at least 30 feet away and call 911.
