A Willow Spring man died Sunday after the sport-utility vehicle he was driving ran off the road and struck a tree in western Harnett County, authorities said. The single-vehicle crash happened on Christian Light Road near Rollins Road outside Fuquay-Varina, and troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded as investigators worked the scene.
What Officials Said
As reported by The Daily Record, First Sgt. C.D. Lowry shared initial details with media, explaining that the SUV ran off the roadway before striking a tree. The outlet identified the responding trooper as C.J. Edwards and described the wreck as a single-vehicle collision that left the driver dead. Authorities had not released the victim’s name at the time of the report.
Where It Happened
Harnett County mapping places Christian Light Road and Rollins Road in the county’s western, largely rural area near the Wake County line, putting the crash site outside Fuquay-Varina, according to Harnett County GIS. The county map shows Christian Light Road as a two-lane rural route that links small communities in western Harnett County, in the vicinity of Willow Spring and the Wake–Harnett county line.
Local Crash History
The same stretch of Christian Light Road has seen deadly wrecks before. WRAL reported a fatal incident there in 2016 when a bicyclist was struck and killed. That earlier case, along with other recent crashes in Harnett County, has kept attention on safety along rural two-lane roads, where local officials regularly urge drivers to slow down and stay alert.
Investigation Ongoing
State troopers typically investigate fatal wrecks and file a collision report as they determine what contributed to a crash.
