A 50-year-old man was fatally shot in Van Nest early Monday, turning a quiet Bronx neighborhood into an active crime scene before the morning had fully begun. Police said the victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body.
According to News 12 New York, NYPD officers responded to a shooting call on Sagamore Street around 6 a.m. The man was pronounced dead, and his identity had not been released in the initial report.
Police had not provided a suspect description, motive or information about any arrest as of Monday morning. The circumstances leading up to the shooting also remain unclear.
Van Nest Has Seen Another Shooting This Year
The fatal shooting follows a separate incident in February, when a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg near Morris Park Avenue in Van Nest. Hoodline previously reported that the victim was expected to recover and that police had not announced an arrest at the time.
Monday’s case is significantly more serious, but investigators have not said whether it is connected to the earlier shooting. Detectives are continuing to piece together what happened on Sagamore Street, with additional information expected as the investigation develops.
